Queenstown here we come

We eventually manage to tear ourselves away from Wanaka today, but it is a sad day however as Wanaka is definitely our most favourite place in NZ so far.

So after a quick pop to the barbers for Mr M to get a much needed short back and sides it’s off towards Queenstown.

We are not long out of Wanaka when it’s time for an important geographical photo stop as we pass the 45th parallel of latitude.  This means we are currently equidistant(ish) between the equator and the south pole.
Somewhere between the 44th and 46th parallels

Then it’s a fairly uneventful journey to Queenstown (with a quick tea and cake stop in Cromwell en route).  When in Queenstown we decide not to stop for too long as we will be spending plenty of time here tomorrow, and keep going to the little town of Glenorchy.

The drive along the side of Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy is lovely with some pretty impressive hills on both sides.
The view down Lake Wakatipu to Mt Earnslaw

Temple Peak

Snow line approx 1900m
For those who have been to Glen Orchy in Scotland there are not many similarities but it is still a lovely place with amazing views of the Mt Aspiring National Park.

Before it gets too late we then make our way back through Queenstown to Arrowtown where we are staying tonight.  After getting Betty setup we decide to have a barbeque for tea tonight as it’s still a lovely evening.
