Heading South

Once more on the road today as we are heading down to Invercargill with the hope of making it to Stewart Island.

On the way from Te Anau we pass by the Clifden Suspension Bridge in Tuatapere, which looks an awful lot like the Clifton Suspension Bridge near to where we used to live in Bristol.

Also for all you NZ fact fans out there Tuatapere is the sausage capital of NZ...
Say no more...
From here we made it down onto the south coast and stopped to enjoy the lovely view from McCraken's Rest before popping into Colac Bay for some lunch.
Great view of the south coast
Shortly after lunch we make it into Invercargill.  Like driving into many larger towns there are many automobile showrooms on the way into town, but as we are in the middle of farming country these are all John Deere and Massey Ferguson rather than Audi and BMW...

A short stop at the i-site later and we have booked ourselves onto a trip to Stewart Island tomorrow.  I am super excited but Mrs M is a little nervous about the ferry crossing as its supposed to be one of the roughest crossings in the world...

Next door to the i-site are the fabulous botanic gardens which are looking really lovely, but unfortunately we are here about 2 weeks before the roses will be out in full bloom.

We decide we actually really like Invercargill.  The streets are really wide and campervan friendly, the street names are all Scottish and everyone is really welcoming and nice.
