We head back into
Dunedin this morning to see some of the things we never managed to see
yesterday. First up is the public artgallery which although small has a great selection of modern and contemporary
Kiwi art.
We then pop up to the
Flagstaff memorial at the top of the city for lunch and to enjoy the views over
Dunedin. We are impressed to see a lump
of rock from Edinburgh Castle which has been gifted from Edinburgh.
After lunch we head
into the botanic gardens and spend a couple of hours having a good wander
through the lovely gardens.
Rather than head on
further up the coast today we decide to go onto the Otago Peninsula and stay
the night in Portobello. The Otago
Peninsula is very pretty, rocky and unspoilt and our campsite is very quiet –
a change from busy Dunedin. Unsure on
what we fancy for dinner we pop down into Portobello to see what’s on
offer. The 1908 restaurant has just
started doing an early evening menu and we opt for fish and chips (Mr M) and a
chicken, brie and cranberry toastie (Mrs M) – back to Betty after a most
enjoyable ‘high tea' in Portabello’.
