G’day from down under

So after another long flight from Hong Kong and a brief overnight stop in an airport hotel, this morning we awake to find ourselves in Melbourne, home of Aussie rules football, the world’s largest metropolitan tram network, and of course Neighbours!

As the last four weeks or have been mainly organised through a travel agency it is quite nice to be in Oz and doing our own thing.  First things first we head back to the airport and pick up our wheels, a less than sporty Kia Cerato (automatic), and then head west out of town. For fans of Top Gear the Cerato is the latest 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car' car...

Our aim point tonight is for Codrington on the far Victoria coast but first we head off into the Grampians, then through Dunkeld and Hamilton on our way.  With the cooler temperatures, rolling green hills and familiar place names we could quite easily be in Scotland.

The Grampians are really magnificent and we have a number of nice stops including at The Balconies and MacKenzie Falls.

After a little longer than expected in the mountains we get caught out by the distances in Oz and leave ourselves quite a way still to go to get to Codrington as the sun starts to go down.  No worries though, ‘Bruce’ our trusty SatNav see’s us ‘right and we get to the B&B around 8.
