The start of the long journey home

We are up early to pack up the last of our things and to say goodbye to John as today we have come to the end of our New Zealand adventure and have to head onto Sydney to start the long journey home.
One last look over Wellington
We head into Petone in the morning to have an explore and to also say goodbye to Aunty Anna (one of Mr M’s relations) who we met when we were first in New Zealand.  She is thrilled at all the places that we have been to and thinks we have been to more of New Zealand than most New Zealanders!  Aunty takes us to the bus stop to get the bus to the airport and we say our goodbyes.

At the airport after the usual process of bag check in, security checks and immigration – which by now we are getting pretty good at, it’s time to leave.  As we board our flight and approach the runway we are both very sad to be leaving New Zealand where we have had the most fantastic 8 weeks ever.  Hopefully we will be back soon – after all there is the vineyard in Wanaka to buy!

The flight is uneventful and goes reasonably quickly – Mrs M also points out that the best thing about Quantas flights are that you get an ice cream after your meal and today is no exception with an excellent choc ice!

After a flight time of about 4 hours we land in Sydney and take a taxi to our B&B which is located in The Rocks area of the City.  It is very central, next to the Harbour Bridge, with a great view to the Opera House from our bedroom window.  It is also lovely and warm – a sunny 25 degree’s C, forecast to get to 27 degree’s C tomorrow!

After depositing our bags it’s time for tea and we head out to explore and find a nice Italian for tea.  We then take a walk down to Circular Quay and are very impressed with great views of the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera house all lit up – we are both looking forward to exploring tomorrow, but for now it is time for bed!
