At the Bach on the Beach

Although we had planned to spend the weekend with Ann and John in Wellington they have very kindly invited us to stay in their beach house (or Bach in NZ parlance) about an hour up the west coast.

So we are back on the road on Saturday morning and it seems strange to be driving a car rather Betty.  We stop off at Otaki on our way for a nice cuppa and some cake (old habits die hard), and then make our way to the Bach.

The first thing we do when we arrive is head straight down to the beach as the sun is out but the weather is supposed to turn later.

The tide is out and the beach is long enough for us not to reach the end even after an hours walking.
Ready for a big walk

Wet sand like a mirror

We can see the weather starting to turn so we head back for the Bach and make preparations for a fish and chip tea.  After our tea we light the log fire and get locked up for the night as the start of a big storm approaches.
