Now to Napier

We wake to a lovely day in Gisborne with a lovely view of the beach from the back doors of Betty.

It’s also a quick start this morning as we have heard about a nice cafĂ© on the outskirts of town and decide the treat ourselves to breakfast out.  After a lovely breakfast of hot cakes, bacon and maple syrup for Mrs M and poached eggs and bacon for Mr M we feel fully fueled for the day ahead.

On our way out of town we stop at the petrol station to treat Betty to a jet-wash and brush up.  Unfortunately we seem to have found a jet-wash with a leak and Mr M gets a better wash than Betty…

A small detour on our way south takes us to the Mahia Peninsula which has been marked up on our map by Kelvin and Pauline as a nice place to visit.  With the sun out we have a great time stopping off at lots of different bays and having a good explore around some of the folded and faulted sandstones on the beaches.

Mr M also get a chance to get some pictures of some quality small faults, sandstone injectites and contorted mudstones.

We then continue down the Hawkes Bay coast and make our way into Napier.  This has been one of our most anticipated stops in the North Island as we both love Art Deco architecture and Napier is famous for this but more details on that tomorrow.
