Deco Done, Gone Golfing

First up today is a visit to the Art Deco town of Napier which was completely destroyed during an earthquake in 1931 and then totally rebuilt in Art Deco Style.  After picking up a map from the friendly and helpful old ladies at the Art Deco Trust we are ready to explore and find it is just like stepping back in time to a gangster movie!
As we walked round the tour we saw an amazing collection of Deco buildings in their original colours as well as some lovely stained glass in the shop fronts.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh inspired glass at the music shop

We enjoyed a lovely picnic stop in the sunken gardens which were also laid out in Art Deco style – I am getting more ideas for my Chelsea Flower Show garden!

After enjoying our picnic lunch in the sunshine Mr M challenges me to a game of mini golf down by the sea front.  As some of you may know Mr M can be ‘a little’ competitive and so when this challenge was laid down the writing was already on the wall really – although after securing the first ‘hole in one’ of the game I did fancy my chances –but sadly it was not to be and spent quite a lot of time in the water, bunker, on the footpath etc – a fun afternoon!
