We land at the start of the second
leg of our big adventure in Hong Kong.
The drive from the airport is just wall to wall skyscrapers and it is a
massive difference after the last couple of weeks in India – especially rural
Rajasthan.
We get to our hotel around 11am and
the first thing we do is order club sandwiches from room-service. This is something we had promised ourselves as
a treat after curry three times a day in India.
After a quick 40 winks we head out
to see Hong Kong armed with Catherine and Julia’s HK tips. First up is the Star Ferry cruise round
Victoria Harbour which is a great starter as it helps us find our bearings.
The ferry cruise is really good as
it not only gives us a feel for the different parts of the city it also shows
how busy the harbour is, with barges, tugs, ferries, water-taxis, junks, police
boats and all manner of other craft all busy in the harbour.
The cruise is also good because we
are on the water around sunset and we see the skyline change from daytime into
night with all the buildings transformed with an array of multi-coloured
lights.
After a quick wash and brush-up at
the hotel we return to the harbour to see the evening free light show and then
head out for some dinner.
Already Hong Kong seems a world away
from all that we have seen in India.
