After a great day out
at Cape Reinga yesterday we plan to head on through some of the magnificent Northland
scenery towards Russell on the East coast.
On leaving the
motorcamp Mrs M shouts to stop as there is a
‘big cone in that tree’. I come to a
halt surprised as to why Mrs M is so keen to look at pine cones,

but soon realise she
means a full-on 900mm AS-900R at the top of a 30m high tree. Impressed that someone managed to get a cone
that high up a tree we head on out of town with smiles on our faces.
Next up on our trip today
is Mangonui where we stop to pick up some fish for tea.

Its then on to Matauri Bay for a nice picnic lunch looking out to the Cavalli Islands where the wreck
of the Rainbow Warrier was re-sunk.

A short drive and a
short ferry crossing (Opua to Okiato) takes us to Russell where we check in to
a lovely camp site and get a spot overlooking the bay.

We take advantage of
the late afternoon sunshine and head across to Paihia on the little passenger
ferry for a wander about, and then back to Russell for some Hoki & chips
for dinner.
A fun day in the van
with many laughs.
Mr & Mrs M
wow NZ looks beautiful!
